Video Not Working? Fix It Now

See how to replace the clutch plates in a Honda Goldwing in this video from Partzilla.com. We’ll get our fiber plates soaking in oil and then remove a skid plate on our Goldwing to access the oil drain bolt. Once we get the oil out and the bolt replaced, we’ll work our way to the clutch cover, and it’s a journey. First, we’ll remove the exhaust. Our unit had a trailer hitch that needed to be removed to access the exhaust mounting bolts, but your machine might not have that. Next, we’ll take an unnecessary step that you might find useful if you need more room to work. We're going to remove the alternator. With that done, we'll start removing the clutch basket. Once we get the old plates removed, we’ll start getting the new ones into place. This is an interesting setup. The Goldwing clutch uses three different part number fiber friction plates and one model number steel plate in the clutch stack. Here’s how it works and the quantities once you get your clutch basket disassembled and you’re replacing the clutch plates on the Goldwing: First, ONE of these friction disks (#6 on the clutch diagram). This fiber friction disk is DISK B: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/22202-MAT-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Then, a steel CLUTCH PLATE (#8 on the clutch diagram). You’ll need to order SEVEN of these in total: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/22321-MAT-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf After you drop those first two plates in, there’s a small wire clip (#17 on the clutch diagram) that needs to be installed: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/22431-MAT-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf With the first two plates and the wire center clip installed, you’ll begin alternating between a DIFFERENT part number fiber friction plate (#7 in the clutch diagram) than the first one and the steel clutch plates. You’ll need to order SIX of these in total. This fiber friction disk is DISK A: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/22203-MCA-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Finally, you’ll add a THIRD type of friction disk as the last plate (#5 on the clutch diagram). Only need ONE of these: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/22201-MCA-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf See the Goldwing clutch diagram here for a good look at the order of plate installation and rest of the clutch parts we used: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/2007/gl1800-3a-gold-wing/clutch?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf You’ll also need: O-ring for clutch cover: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/91308-MB0-003?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Clutch cover gasket: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/11351-MCA-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf More of the parts you might need: Reserve coolant tank: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/19110-MCA-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Gasket scraper: https://www.partzilla.com/product/aftermarket/2YGZ-MOTION-PRO-08-0601?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Hex nut: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/90206-MZ0-000?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf See the exhaust mounts for your Goldwing in this diagram: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/2007/gl1800-3a-gold-wing/muffler-1?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Read all about this job and how to do it step-by-step here: https://www.partzilla.com/blog/honda/goldwing/gl1800/clutch/pack/replacement?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description-blog-link VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Introduction - 0:00 Soaking fiber plates - 1:20 Removing skid plate and draining oil - 2:15 Removing the exhaust - 5:20 Removing the coolant reservoir - 10:40 Opening the clutch cover - 11:50 Clutch disassembly - 14:20 Disassembling the clutch pack - 17:00 Installing new clutch plates - 20:00 Installing the clutch basket - 23:40 Closing the clutch cover - 26:40 Buy OEM Honda Goldwing GL1800 parts here: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/2007/gl1800-3a-gold-wing?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=description_btf Talk to us: Twitter: https://twitter.com/partzilla Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Partzilla Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/partzilla/ In the video we’re working with a 2007 Honda Goldwing GL1800, but you may have similar steps for your Honda motorcycle.
