We’ll get our fiber plates soaking in oil and then remove a skid plate on our Goldwing to access the oil drain bolt. Once we get the oil out and the bolt replaced, we’ll work our way to the clutch cover, and it’s a journey. First, we’ll remove the exhaust. Our unit had a trailer hitch that needed to be removed to access the exhaust mounting bolts, but your machine might not have that.
Next, we’ll take an unnecessary step that you might find useful if you need more room to work. We're going to remove the alternator. With that done, we'll start removing the clutch basket. Once we get the old plates removed, we’ll start getting the new ones into place.
This is an interesting setup. The Goldwing clutch uses three different part number fiber friction plates and one model number steel plate in the clutch stack. Here’s how it works and the quantities once you get your clutch basket disassembled and you’re replacing the clutch plates on the Goldwing:
First, ONE of these friction disks (#6 on the clutch diagram). This fiber friction disk is DISK B:

Then, a steel CLUTCH PLATE (#8 on the clutch diagram). You’ll need to order SEVEN of these in total:

After you drop those first two plates in, there’s a small wire clip (#17 on the clutch diagram) that needs to be installed:

With the first two plates and the wire center clip installed, you’ll begin alternating between a DIFFERENT part number fiber friction plate (#7 in the clutch diagram) than the first one and the steel clutch plates. You’ll need to order SIX of these in total. This fiber friction disk is DISK A:
