The Next Step (2013) is a canadian show about dancers in a competitive dance studio, who find themselves in gobsmacking drama and struggling relationships. I was coerced into making a video about season 3, the season where all my favourite characters vanished and I was left with the lesser digestible characters. Season 3, the dancers are left in a pickle when Lucien, the head coach of the rival team elite is trying to overthrow the studio. In this video essay, I break down the drama and polarizing themes and characters of this season. Eldon really did his biggest one this season and almost drove me into insanity, pls excuse that.
I talk about the mysterious and abrupt ending of West and Emily’s relationship and how it ties into the “undateable bipoc and/or black character trope. It really didn't ever make sense to me or anyone, why West and Emily’s relationship was scrapped out of nowhere, but now it all makes sense, West was just another victim to this harmful trope.
Also this is my formal apology for taking so long to post, my laptop quite literally snapped in half while creating this video.
