With my 'Reel To Reel Rambler' hat on, I received last week, what was quite frankly an astonishing press release. It was from none other than Revox, perhaps the most significant name in reel to reel tape (along with its 'professional studio recorder' sister brand Studer). The news is that Revox are introducing an all new reel to reel tape recorder: the B77 mk III. It's been around 25 years since the world had a 'mass market' reel to reel tape recorder, the only products available in this sphere are the results of dedicated one-man band / niche artisan companies who have produced a small handful of very niche models.
In addition Revox announce the launch of the 'Revox Analog Master Tapes Collection'. Whilst these amazing copy master tapes might be outside of the budget of most, they should certainly be of interest. This is the single largest step in bringing the unbelievable quality of Master Studio sound to the general audiophile music lover audience.
