Welcome to the Whispers Estate. The estate was built in 1894 and located in Mitchell, Indiana. The home belonged to Dr. George and Sarah White for a short while before they sold it to Dr. John Gibbons and his wife Jessie in 1899. Sadly, the Gibbons could not conceive, so they adopted three children. Dr. Gibbons was a well known and respected doctor in Lawrence County. He ran a small doctor’s office on the first floor of the estate. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the Gibbons shortly after moving into the home. Their ten year old daughter, Rachel, passed away three days after suffering severe burns from a fire in the parlor. The tragedies continued following Rachel’s death with the Gibbon’s ten-month-old suddenly passing away from unknown causes as well as Jessie Gibbon’s passing away from pneumonia. Years after the Gibbon’s family had moved out of the Whispers Estate, the horrors continued with a man suffering from a massive heart attack, which led to his death in the upstairs shower. A young boy also died from falling down the front staircase. Visitors of the home have reported seeing Rachel running around the hallways and playing with the toys left for her in her bedroom. Visitors have reported to hear labored breathing and coughing from the master bedroom where Jessie Gibbons passed away from pneumonia. Also, in the master bedroom, the closet door has been known to open on its own. Seemingly malevolent, an eight foot tall shadow figure named “Big Black” has been reportedly seen throughout the halls of the estate as well as injured several guests. The estate gained its name “Whispers”, by the amount of disembodied voices and whispers heard by guests over the years. These are just some of the paranormal occurrences that take place in the Whispers Estate.
