In 2013, incarcerated individuals in California’s Pelican Bay Prison assembled a historic hunger strike to protest decades-long sentences of solitary confinement. The defiance united over 30,000 inmates from diverse backgrounds in a powerful display of solidarity. This act garnered national attention and shed light on the inhumane conditions of The SHU (Security Housing Units). “The Strike” highlights the strength of prisoner-led resistance and the transformative power of collective organizing.
