With the proliferation of the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle, the US Army recognized that they would need their own infantry fighting vehicle to replace the aging M113 armored personnel carrier. What emerged was the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, designed as the M2 IFV and M3 CFV. The Bradley was lambasted by military reformers for various reasons.
