People sometimes ask how safe Stockholm is to visit. Decades ago I would have said that it's absolutely safe, and that Sweden is one of the safest countries in the world. But things are changing these days... It's been an area plagued with crime and unemployment - and it's one of the areas of Stockholm that foreign media sometimes calls a no-go zone. But how dangerous is Rinkeby? And how dangerous is Stockholm - or Sweden - in general? In this video I dive into some statistics as well as anecdotal evidence, and I sprinkle it all with my personal thoughts on the matter. Another reason I had to go to Rinkeby is that this day was Rinkebyfestivalen - a festival to celebrate the local community, and to build bridges across people and prejudices. Bands and artists were performing, food was served, and people were having a splendid time in the sun. But how did my visit end? Spoiler: I didn't get shot when I was in Rinkeby. And I didn't get into any trouble at all. In my view there's no place in Sweden that's an actual no-go zone - but we do have areas with high crime rate, violence, and problems in general. But there's no place that deserves to term no-go zone as far as I'm concerned. That said, Sweden has horrible problems with violent crime, gangs, assaults, and other incidents - especially compared to the rest of the Nordics. Sweden is still a safe country...but the question is for how long, if things continue along this line.
