During WW2 Britain suffered repeated Nazi air raids that devastated urban centres up and down the country. On 22&23 December 1940, Manchester and Salford suffered their own 'blitz' when two nights of sustained attack left death destruction all across the area. But what actual damage did Manchester sustain and did it actually get off quite lightly? And how removed from this are we in the modern era... does the idea of war really feel so abstract after looking at how deadly bombings shaped our modern city.
