Raised bed chop and drop and planting out the garden is all in the days work for January. I've come to really appreciate the chop and drop due to its ease of keeping nutrients where you want them, right where you are growing. To me this simplifies the need to compost and while not always ideal, it takes time, it is a wonderful option.
