Folks, my Betta got a little banged up a few months ago, which was my fault. I had driftwood in the tank that, although I thought looked cool, had edges that were too ragged. In his constant need to explore the tank, my Betta like to "scratch his back" on the driftwood, constantly running into in on accident. After injuring himself he contracted fin rot. This stage of fin rot is too advanced for Melafix, Bettafix, or Pimafix, so I am not using them. Rather, to combat the fin rot, I am using a broad spectrum of medication: Jungle Fungus Clear and Seachem Kanaplex. Here's how I cured his fin rot and took him from "banged up" to "buffed up:" Step 1: 1st Dose Jungle Fungus Cure: Leave in the tank for 4 days (1-4) 1st, 2nd Dose of Kanaplex: Day 1 and Day 3 Step 2: 50% Water Change on Day 5 Step 3: 2nd Dose of Jungle Fungus Cure on Day 5: Leave in tank for 4 days 3rd Dose of Kanaplex on Day 5: Step:4 50% Water Change after 4 Days. REMEMBER TO REMOVE INVERTEBRATES OUT OF THE TANK AS WELL AS ANY CARBON! If you need to dose again, let the tank rest for a week before continuing the above treatment, as continuous prolonged treatment can be hard on a fish's kidneys. Hope this is helpful! Keep tankin' folks! --d
