Can you believe there was a day when people smoked on airplanes? Well, it's true, and I have the evidence to prove it: an ashtray in this plane's armrest. In this video I set out to modernize this outdated fixture, replacing the ashtray with a cup holder using the capabilities of 3D scanning, digital design, and 3D printing. I demonstrate my entire workflow, starting with the digitization of the physical object using the Creality CR-Scan Raptor 3D scanner, followed by digital modification using a combination of software tools: MeshMixer, MeshInspector, and Blender.
