More of a sensitive topic for today's BJJ Q&A. Not the usual technique or gym related question.
Today's question is more about dealing with trauma and physical abuse and using combat sports to overcome it.
The question today comes from a young man who has experience some rough stuff in his life and he knows I have as well. Including sexual abuse and physical trauma in the form of being jumped when I was kid.
His question is how I overcome those situations as they've just completely destroyed his confidence and self-esteem.
So for anyone who's experienced anything similar to this I go through the basic ideas of how I overcome this situations using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, wrestling and MMA. It's been my experience that by doing difficulty things that challenge you and by building yourself up you can more easily deal with this situations.
Keep in mind that I'm not a professional doctor or anything. It's just been my experience. And if you're struggling with anything and need professional help. Go get it! But I still see combat sports training as a net positive for building skills, strength and physical confidence for yourself.
Hope the video is helpful to you.
