Tim Mosso sold his watch collection in 2018 when he expected to leave the watch industry. Seven years later, Tim's still here, and it's time to talk about which luxury watches he should buy to rebuild his watch collection. Tonight, Tim talks about the watch brands and models that would be on his shopping list. See the entire collection tonight on "Watches Tonight!"

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas is a modern classic, but like many luxury sports watches, there are many variants of the Oveseas. Tim's favorite is the original 1996-2003 Overseas Self Winding which went by the reference numbers 42040 and 42042. The 37mm steel original was only 8.4mm thick but robust thanks to a solidly built bracelet and a 150-meter water resistant case. Vacheron Constantin caliber 1310 (later 1311) was a COSC chronometer certified Girard Perregaux automatic with the pedigree to belong in a Swiss "holy trinity" sports watch. Today, these watches cost only $12,000-$15,000 dollars, which is like getting a Vacheron watch at Rolex prices.

Separately, Tim has a longstanding affection for the Zenith brand Zenith El Primero chronograph movement. However, the El Primero is just a movement, not a watch; a watch collector needs to choose an El Primero model. Tim's favorite is from the Zenith Chronomaster series as it developed under the controversial Thierry Nataf. The Grande Chronomaster XXT Quantieme Perpetuel is a Zenith El Primero chronograph with a COSC chronometer certification and a perpetual calendar with moonphase.

The Chronomaster's 45mm white gold case is imposing, but it fits - just - on Tim's wrist. He has a sentimental attachment to this series after experiencing a Zenith Chronomaster XXT Open dial in the Walt Whitman Mall prior to joining Navy. At the time, the watch made a deep impression, and Tim imagined a person should buy such a watch to commemorate an incredible achievement or milestone. Does Tim deserve his ultimate El Primero?
