In this video, I will revisit the story of the execution of Major General Illiya Bisalla and others in 1976.
I will examine the merit or otherwise of their case and their last words just before the firing squad went to work. Illiya D. Bisalla was a Major General in the Nigerian Army and the Commissioner of Defence in the regime of General Murtala Muhammed (a position that is known today as Minister of Defence).
Six months after the regime had taken off, on February 13, 1976, the head of state was assassinated in a coup attempt and Bisalla was controversially convicted of conspiracy and concealment of treason by the Special Military Tribunal and executed!
