India's first battle for women emancipation in terms of right to protest against exploitation and fight it out against high and might was fought in Punjab among top bureaucrats pitted against a formidable DGP in form of KPS GILL. Rupan Deol Bajaj, the then Special secretary finance was slapped on her back by KPS Gill, the then DGP Punjab in midst of over 4 dozen top bureaucrats including the home secretary and others.
Rupan Deol Bajaj had to fight it out against this abject humiliation at the hands of a super power ful cop KPS Gill as entire bureaucracy right up till governor of Punjab and officers down backed out as potential witnesses as the matter was pursued in various courts of laws.
A gritty Rupan Deol Bajaj supported duly by her IAS husband and family eventually managed to get justice although after 7 long years of legal battle without any witnesses.
The supreme court of India later upheld the judgement by lower Chandigarh court which held KPS Gill guilty of outraging modesty of a woman under IPC section 354 dealing a humiliating blow to the supercop who stood shamed after almost two decade long battle that went twice to supreme court of India.
