Mad magazine has a rich history—a story of rebellion and reproach, of Alfred E. Neuman's controversial gap-toothed face, and of a "gang of idiots" that happened to be some of the smartest satirists of their day. Mad magazine changed humor, but it met its fair share of speed-bumps along the way. J Edgar Hoover wasn't a fan and the U.S. Treasury Department once took issue with one of Mad's gags.
