Mad magazine changed humor, but it met its fair share of speed-bumps along the way. J Edgar Hoover wasn't a fan and the U.S. Treasury Department once took issue with one of Mad's gags. Mad was talked about in concerned tones in the halls of governmental power and snuck into many a classroom.
