For most of seafaring history, those aboard ships would have no way to communicate with those on land, while spending days, weeks, and sometimes months alone on the harsh seas. Ships would crash, sink, or disappear without a trace, unable to contact anyone that may have saved them.
That all changed when Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi revolutionised ship-to-ship communication - and even allowed them to make contact over vast distances. His groundbreaking wireless telegraph would forever change how ships communicated, and would even be responsible for saving hundreds, if not thousands, of lives. This is the story of the man who gave a voice to ships.
