How Sifu Taught Me Not To Quit

Sloclap’s Sifu taught me not to give up and how to let go, even if it is just a video game. During a new year, we make new year’s resolutions and often become disappointed in ourselves. We promise to tackle our video game backlog, improve ourselves, and even go to the gym. But when we don’t stick with it, we get down on ourselves. But after playing through SIfu last year, Sifu taught me that growth doesn’t come in one day. Growth is a cycle, just like Sifu’s bosses and level designs. Cycles of the Wu Xing. Sifu also presents the idea of Wude in its gameplay and design. When you spare all bosses, like The Botanist, The Fighter, The Artist, The CEO, and The Leader Yang, you achieve the Wude ending or the true ending. It’s here that Sloclap’s Sifu taught me that giving up and letting go are two different things, teaching real life lessons via the medium of kung fu, unlike other kung fu-focused fighting games. Self-development, but in a video game. It’s a video game with a huge difficulty curve, and even though it’s not easy, it’s worth it.
