Given its somewhat insane longevity, Supernatural ended up committing many, many sins over its numerous seasons, but one of its biggest sins is the way the series and its narrative turned on one of its main protagonists, Sam Winchester, and started to neglect, ignore and repeatedly punish his character. On my recent re-watch of the Kripke era, I really noticed this, so I wanted to explore Sam’s initial arc on the series, and how Dean’s narrative and POV ended up eclipsing Sam’s, to the point of stripping away much of Sam’s agency, narrative and voice.
