In 2004, one massive sci-fi series took serialization to a cinematic level on the small screen, scoring ratings so big it changed everything happening on television forever. And it did it by borrowing from Survivor.

Before future Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, network television was largely episodic. After, TV became serialized.

In the process, it ushered in peak TV and shows like Breaking Bad and The Expanse.

But, by the time it was over, the series became so hated and reviled that it’s since been forgotten by the pop culture world it created.
