Once a common creature, the red squirrel has now become rare and can only be seen in small pockets of woodland and thrives in the ancient Scots Pine forests, the only place where its main competitor, the Grey Squirrel from North America, cannot follow. We see how squirrels bury nuts and how they find them months later. If a previous food supply has been poor or the weather is cold the squirrels will miss out the spring breeding period in bad conditions they wont breed at all. We see how Dominance is usually established by aggressive chases; the dominant male usually succeeds by chasing the intruder out.
