In this video I explain how to add, subtract, and multiply complex numbers. I begin with addition and demonstrate that two complex numbers can be summed by adding the real and imaginary parts together. I then explain how to subtract two complex numbers by subtracting the real parts and imaginary parts. In each case a new complex number is produced of the form a+bi where i = √-1.
I follow this by explaining how to multiply a complex number by a real number and demonstrate how the real number is distributed through both real and imaginary parts of the complex number.
I then explain how to calculate the result when i (√-1) is raised to the powers of 2, 3 and 4 ( i², i³ and i⁴).
In the last part of the video I explain how to multiply two complex numbers together, demonstrating how the real and imaginary parts of the 1st complex number are distributed into the 2nd complex number.
