Lukas Böpple's workshop in Ditzingen near Stuttgart is located between an industrial area and the highway. Musicians from all over the world make a pilgrimage to him. Böpple's passion is trumpets. His title "master metal wind instrument maker" sounds bulky and old. But he is young and his unique pieces are in demand. Creating instruments is in his genes, because he learned the craft from his father. A trumpet consists of valves, slides, a bell, a leadpipe, a mouthpiece and many other components. They are all made of brass. The master hammers, solder, grinds, turns and polishes. It takes him a week to elicit a sound from the instrument. His work is exhausting, dirty and rough.
