Michl Einsle, a master carpenter from Grünenbach in the Allgäu, knew how to make wooden wells even as a teenager. His father showed him. In the meantime, he has built close to 1,000 wells.

Wooden wells have a long tradition in the Allgäu and in Alpine regions. In the densely wooded landscape, they served as cattle watering places, especially on the Alps. Then tourists also took a liking to the woody ideas for the garden. Today, the wooden fountains are still in demand also as village fountains or as resting places along hiking trails. Michl Einsle has them in all sizes.

The wood for the fountain should be as freshly cut as possible. In the meantime, simple, straightforward fountains are in demand. He hollows out the fountain with chain saw and milling machine until only the wall remains. He makes everything out of wood: a plug with an overflow and also the water inlet. The fountain should always be well filled with water, then it will last a long time. The water makes the wood swell and so the fountain stays tight.
