Take the time to learn to carry plates the right way. It’ll save you time, save your wrist, and help you move through your section without that low-key fear of dropping someone’s dinner. This is basic—but essential—restaurant server training for high-volume restaurants where plate carries are part of daily life.
In this video, we go step by step through a secure, stable way to carry three plates at once. It’s not about looking flashy—it’s about working clean and avoiding avoidable disasters.
You’ll notice I grab the third plate first, followed by the second, then the first. That has to do with the order of service, which I’ll cover in a future video. For now, just focus on the mechanics of the carry: thumb and pinky hook the edges, middle fingers and palm carry the weight. No pinching, no wrist strain.
And whatever you do—don’t let that second plate rest on the first. It’s not just a health code issue, it’s unstable. Trust me: dropping a full entrée during a dinner rush is a memory you don’t want.
