How to Chainsaw Carve an Eagle for Beginners (7 Hour Real-Time Tutorial)

00:51 Trim bottom of log to remove damage
03:25 Measure and do second cut
06:30 Discuss top vs bottom
09:10 Debark with a chisel and ck size
11:20 Clean up rotten part of log with chainsaw
13:10 Do first set of marks with the template
15:25 Begin blocking with the big saw
35:00 Do another set of marks with the template
37:50 Start shaping with the smaller saw
53:10 Discuss soft spot and how to shift orientation to compensate
54:35 Discuss tail feathers
55:40 Continue to shape with carving saw
1:25:30 Do trial feather detail (these will all be ground off but it helps me “see” better)
1:28:30 Draw in left wing and face again
1:30:00 Do trial run on feathers left side

3:51:50 Detailing leg feathers and touching up neck feathers with the carving saw
4:03:50 Burn the eagle to remove oil and rough places
4:10:55 Brushing off the soot but not hard enough as you will see later
4:12:17 Review progress and steps to finish
4:14:45 Sand eagle with 80 grit ball and sanding sponge
4:20:50 Showing what areas to spray black
4:22:20 Drawing in the eyes and beak details
4:25:25 a little more Dremel work on the face
4:34:00 Paint the black trim and eyes
4:51:30 Paint dirty orange on the beak and feet
5:10:30 Paint White head and tail feathers
5:31:40 Offer free template and videos again
5:32:30 Paint is too wet so used torch to dry it
5:37:00 Clean up paint with all the tools where the paint shouldn’t be
5:51:10 Sand the stump sides and bottom
6:13:10 I spotted worm holes, pick them clean and blow out the dirt
6:20:55 Touch up black where chunks blew loose, should have brushed harder
6:37:25 Debate about what type of protectant to use
6:41:29 Spray the 1st coat of sealer
6:48:17 Evaluate for repainting feet and final protective coat
