Don’t underestimate the power of reaching out—it costs nothing but can lead to incredible opportunities. How to slide in dms breaking this up into 3 sections Things not to do Mindset Things you can do Things NOT to Do No Life Stories - Strangers don’t care about your life story. Keep it short and relevant. No Long DMs - Avoid sending paragraphs. Be concise—no one wants to read a novel in their DMs. Don’t Be Weird or Creepy & Don’t Harass or Spam Don’t Be Unclear - DONT MAKE ME WORK TO UNDERSTAND WTF YOU WANT JUST TELL ME Don’t Be Needy - Desperation is a turn-off. Be confident and detached from the outcome. Mindset Tips You’re Not Trying to Convince Anyone - Your goal is to figure out who can and will help you, not to persuade someone who can’t. Embrace Rejection - Rejection is normal. It’s not personal—people are busy, overwhelmed, or just not the right fit. No One Owes You Anything - Remember, you’re asking for help. If someone responds, it’s a bonus, not an obligation. Trust the Process - Cold DMs are a numbers game. Send enough messages, and eventually, someone will reply. Don’t Overinvest in One DM - Don’t pin all your hopes on one message. Spread your efforts across multiple DMs to increase your chances. Things TO Do Be Clear and Concise - State your intention upfront. Who are you, what do you want, and why are you reaching out? Be Authentic - Avoid generic, AI-generated messages. Personalize your DMs and show genuine interest. (and once you nail a format / general vibe then you can copy paste it) Show Empathy - Understand that the person on the other side has their own life and priorities Polite Persistance - If you don’t get a response, follow up once or twice. Be polite and understanding—life gets busy. Don’t Take Rejection Personally - Move on if someone doesn’t reply. It’s not about you—it’s about timing and their capacity to help. Friday lunch time is a good time to send a dm btw ;) #mindset #linkedin #coldmessage #howtodm #networking
