How to combine two or more similar tables using “append” in Power BI! This will “stack” the tables on top of each other, letting you measure and compare across multiple sources more easily. Here we use it to combine task data from multiple projects, but it’s also very common for survey data where you need to combine and compare. A great place for this is combining data from Microsoft Lists that have been created in multiple sites - you can’t do this in SharePoint, but you can in Power BI! This also addresses the “Formula.Firewall: Query ‘Query’ (step ‘stepname’) references other queries or steps, so it may not directly access a data source. Please rebuild this data combination” error. 🛠️ RESOURCES SQLBI Header/line item DAX for large models: https://www.sqlbi.com/articles/header-detail-vs-star-schema-models-in-tabular-and-power-bi/ 🍀 CHAPTERS 0:00 - Intro 0:47 - Query your tables 1:06 - Add a distinguishing column and unique ID 2:28 - Append your tables to a new query 06:40 - How to edit the append to add more tables 07:04 - Expand any multi-value fields in dimension tables 9:38 - “rebuild this data combination” error 10:32 - Create relationships ▶️ WATCH NEXT - Create a Microsoft List with a board view (source used in this video): https://youtu.be/gYwkfwyRIxI - Microsoft Lists sources in Power BI (referenced in video): https://youtu.be/ofQFAZ7jrbc CONNECT WITH ME 📣 Subscribe via email for news + new videos - https://bi-ome.kit.com/youtube 📝 Blog - https://christine-payton.com/ 💬 Questions?
