I love print in place designs! In my opinion, those from FAB365 are the most captivating, so I wanted to challenge myself to produce a moveable tank design that not only printed in place, but folded and assembled just like FAB365 models. In this video, I take you through my design process and provide tips for designing in two different sets of positions. We also cover problem solving techniques that you can employ to avoid disaster. My final design on Printables: https://www.printables.com/model/437973-print-in-place-tank-body-fab365-style Note that I’ve purposely only included STEP files for my parts, as the tank base I’m adding to is a paid model and I wish to respect the work of the original author. I am not sharing the Onshape link, and have obscured the filename and URL. If it seems like I’m going too fast on the CAD, it’s because each of these concepts has been covered in detail in an earlier video. The playlist is linked below. This video is about applying those concepts to a foldable print in place design. 0:00 Introduction 3D design for 3D printing Onshape playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGqRUdq5ULsONnjEEPeBxxStEsobDKAtV FAB365: http://www.fab365.net/ 0:47 Design situation Satisfying torture tests video: https://youtu.be/m25NEKcUwuI Print in place robot by EXTREME3DPRINT: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/pipbot-1-print-in-place-robot Metal slug wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Slug Metal Slug tank by Alexander Gargett: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Jqd5v Foldable Car - G by GOODesign: https://fab365.net/items/142 2:22 Importing source CAD and creating a part studio in context 4:32 Folding print in place design process Onshape variables tutorial: https://youtu.be/UMpqWopwyO8 9:00 Test print and fixing mistakes 11:46 Adding details 13:12 Final print and assembly 14:03 Conclusion Buy quality and affordable filament from X3D.
