PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION – Looking for an easy winter painting idea? Want to do a fun seasonal DIY project? Let me be your acrylic art instructor as I teach you easy step-by-step instructions throughout this fun beginner art video as you learn how to paint snow-capped mountains, evergreen trees, snow, and a gondola—a seasonal and wintery scenery painting “SNOWY MOUNTAIN GONDOLA” with acrylic paint. When I thought of the word “gondola” only one thing came to mind—Venice. The iconic image of two people in love, sitting embraced on a long pointy boat as a gondolier steers them through the narrow canal waterways of one of the most magical and romantic cities in the world. But what I didn’t know is that “Gondola” is also a word for those metal boxes used to lift skiers to the top of mountains, or to take tourists over beautiful scenic landscapes. You would think growing up in the mountains of the Berkshires where skiing is a seasonal past time that I would know that, but I always referred to them as cable cars, ski lift, conveyor, chairlift, or tow lift. I checked online and learned that the word “gondola” can mean many different things. A long skinny boat in Venice, an open railroad freight car, an elongated car attached to the underside of an airship, a spherical airtight enclosure suspended from a balloon for carrying passengers or instruments, a heavy flat-bottomed boat used on New England rivers and on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, as a another word for a tram, trolly street car, or trolly bus throughout Europe, and, of course, an enclosed car suspended from a cable and used for transporting passengers to the top of snowy mountains. As the old adage goes, I guess you learn something new every day. So in the spirit of the wintery season, snowy mountains, pine trees, snow pants, goggles, earmuffs, lip balm, red frozen runny noses, tingly numb toes, heavy ski boots, needing to pee really bad while on top of the mountain, accidentally going down a black diamond slop and falling on your face, hot chocolate at the lodge next to a fire, and all the other joys of skiing, join me and learn to paint an easy image and an homage to a day at the ski resort. The painting process for this beginner art lesson is so simple. In the first step to this acrylic art lesson, you’ll learn how to draw an outline for your landscape using a pencil. Then, after learning how to paint a clear and crisp winter sky, you’ll apply a base coat for your mountains and snow. Then you’ll learn how to paint mountains by adding highlights and shadows to create peaks and valleys with depth, giving your mountains form and dimension. Then you’ll paint snow using a dry brush or scrubbing technique and pine trees by layering colors to create the illusion of a dense forest on the hill. Then, after learning how to draw a gondola and cable, you’ll add additional layers, highlight and shadows with reflections in the glass windows, to give it a realistic 3-D like appearance. Have fun and create the perfect canvas wall art to spark the imagination. Using only 2 brushes and 5 colors, you’ll paint like a professional and create the best canvas painting in the world! Have a date night, paint party, paint and sip event, or virtual paint night. Paint with oil paint, watercolor, any medium will work! Paint just for fun or for art therapy. It's an easy art project for anyone. I hope you enjoy watching this YouTube art video and let's get painting and let's get sipping!
