This time I decided to make a drawing on a knife. I chose a drawing on the theme of ancient Egypt. An incredible, mysterious world with pharaohs and mummies. Let me tell you about the heroes of my work. Who was the crocodile? The crocodile in Egyptian mythology is often associated with the god Sebek (or Spec), who is depicted with the head of a crocodile. Sebek is the deity of water, fertility and protection, and also personifies the strength and power of the Nile. Crocodiles in ancient Egypt were perceived as sacred animals, personifying power and danger. Sebe was also considered the patron of the pharaohs and warlike aspects, so his cult played an important role in the Egyptian religion. In some texts and legends, crocodiles were depicted as protectors, capable of scaring away enemies and evil. The second hero of the drawing is a tamed hyena. The hyena is not the main symbol or figure in Egyptian mythology. However, mythology also contains references to various animals that were important to the ancient Egyptians, such as jackals, cats, falcons, or crocodiles. I will tell you a little about the jackal, in Egyptian mythology it is associated with the god Anubis, who is usually depicted with the head of a jackal or completely in the form of a jackal. Anubis is the deity of death and the afterlife, as well as the patron of mummification and protector of the grave. Jackals were noticeable in ancient Egypt, especially near cemeteries, which may have contributed to the association of these animals with the afterlife and the protection of the dead. Anubis played an important role in the process of Judgment Day, when the souls of the dead were weighed on scales against the feather of the goddess Maat, a symbol of truth and justice.
I used a new knife bought online as a base for the design. Before I started to implement my idea, I painted the knife to apply the design. I drew the design on the knife. Using a needle and an awl, I scratched the design into the paint. Next, I started multi-layer electrochemical etching of the metal using a power supply. Step by step, layer by layer, my knife began to acquire the look I needed. After finishing the etching, I used electrolyte to darken the design and give it some shadows and visual volume. It was a difficult but interesting project. With patience and perseverance, using a simple technology, sitting at home, I created a design with volume on the knife. With this easy salt etching technique, you can get a unique product with any image on metal. For me, this is an incredible result, which I am very pleased with. How do you like my work?
