Check out Campfire Blaze, a toolset for writers and gamemasters to keep their creative work organized (sponsored link): https://www.campfireblaze.com?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=S_Q2_21 Magical constructs don't exactly fit into any notions of realism, but it's fun to entertain the idea of how one could possibly defeat an iron golem if it existed in a more mundane world, where magic or adamantine weapons don't exist. Could it be treated like a possessed suit of armor and be vulnerable to maces or hammers for instance? Or is it more solid and would require way more kinetic energy to damage than even a powerful strike on a horse at full gallop could generate? Maybe this discussion (more like over-thinking) could be useful if you're looking for ideas for a fantasy world that doesn't abandon logic entirely. Either way I hope you find it entertaining. This was a lot of editing for one person... Worth it? You decide. :) And how could I pass up a chance to sneak in some Castlevania goodness in the background, right? *** Sources *** Iron golem in Dungeons & Dragons https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/iron-golem Density of human body vs. metal http://blogofholding.com/?p=6387 Ballistic trajectory & muzzle velocity http://www.shooterscalculator.com/ballistic-trajectory-chart.php?t=7a30470f https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62%C3%9739mm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62%C3%9754mmR Mechanical behavior of the imperial carroballista https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0094114X14001529 Discussion abut trebuchets and other ancient artillery / siege engines https://historum.com/threads/ancient-artillery-and-siege-engines.41287/page-9 War and Energy (kinetic energy of a medieval cannon) http://vaclavsmil.com/wp-content/uploads/docs/smil-article-2004-war-and-energy.pdf History of cannons https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cannon#Medieval_Europe Guns vs Barbell Weight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIrTMoZXleM How Many Hershey's Chocolate bars does it take to stop a bullet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxakNt-5Yd8 Backgrounds & sprites https://pixabay.com/photos/wood-nature-tree-travel-landscape-3262822/ https://unsplash.com/photos/1L71sPT5XKc https://pixabay.com/photos/condat-sur-v%C3%A9z%C3%A8re-dordogne-p%C3%A9rigord-2453955/ https://bandygrass.tumblr.com/post/140629782568/this-is-for-you-if-you-like-horses-run-cycles *** Music *** "Battle Theme 2" by Alexandr Zhelanov https://opengameart.org/content/battle-themes "No More Magic" by Horror Pen https://opengameart.org/content/no-more-magic "RPG Ambient 3" by Hit Ctrl https://opengameart.org/content/rpg-ambient-3 Outro: "Highland Storm" by The Slanted Room Records https://theslantedroom.github.io/steve.yee/ *** Support the channel *** Help fund future videos, get bonus content and other rewards: http://www.patreon.com/skallagrim https://www.subscribestar.com/skallagrim https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3WIohkLkH4GFoMrrWVZZFA/join Books about history and/or martial arts, swords, knives, video/audio equipment, and other stuff I recommend (as an Amazon Affiliate I earn commission through these links): US - https://www.amazon.com/shop/skallagrimnilsson Canada - https://amzn.to/2HeOCMA Other ways to support the channel by shopping through affiliate links: Kult of Athena, my favorite online store for reproductions of historical arms and armor, fantasy swords, etc: https://www.kultofathena.com/?koa=259 Where to get HEMA gear and practice swords: http://www.woodenswords.com/?Click=1799 *** Social media & merch *** How to contact me (can't always reply, since I get too many messages): https://www.youtube.com/user/SkallagrimNilsson/about See a list of my video uploads: https://twitter.com/_Skallagrim_ https://www.facebook.com/SkallagrimYT Channel-related shirts and other merch: http://skallagrim.spreadshirt.com/ https://teespring.com/stores/skallagrim #fantasy #rpg #dnd
