A rational function (which is a fraction in which both the numerator and denominator are polynomials) has a slant asymptote when the degree of the numerator is greater than the degree of the denominator.
To find a slant asymptote, you need to perform polynomial long division. The result of the long division, not including the remainder term, is the slant asymptote of the function.
