For this session I fish a very cold winters morning on the mid and upper reaches of the Gamtoos River, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Its now mid winter and the lagoon area and its deep channels have started to really cool which often pushes the incoming fish to venture further up the system to find the shallower, but warmer waters!
In this video I hope to take you through the visuals and commentary of 'Soft Skills' artificial lure angling. There is a vast amount of information contained within the video, which if taken into your approach to lure angling, will go a long way to ensuring more constant catches. I was fishing in my traditional 'Nursery', but even here in the mid winter conditions...Monster catches lurk!
I use only three lures in this session, predominantly a 3/8oz Orange and White Trophy Tails Bucktail. I also caught a few fish on a Pink and Chartreuse 6 inch Mermaid Tail Soft Plastic and end off the session using a Noeby Shiver Stick Bait! These three lures make up the bulk of my use when fishing salt water estuaries. Once you master these three types, along with all the variations available, you will...without doubt increase your catch rate. Remember you have to work your way through all the sizes to eventually earn that prize Trophy catch. Nothing in live comes without honest hard work and dedication to your facet of fishing!
There is no doubt that our prized recreational, sport and commercial fisheries are under growing threat. Those that have been fishing a few decades or more will, without any doubt, admit that in recent years a very clear decline has continued. I urge all anglers to practice self control when fishing and to limit their catch and not to catch their limit. All legal anglers are well entitled to keep a fry, but Catch n Release...is the right thing to do to ensure that our waters remain bountiful well into the future!
