Today I'm going to show you how to fix the gas cap warning message on jeep patriot code P0457 P0456 P1128
The gas cap message pop's when there is a small leak due to a sealing problem so the common possible causes are
-Number 1: it can be a bad gas cap locking mechanism
-Number 2: it can be a bad gas cap gasket
-Number 3: it can be too much rust builds up around the filler neck
So a lot of times it is the rust that causes this probleme and it does not get noticed so you replace the gas cap only to find out that it is not the source of the probleme, so the first thing you should check is rust around the filler neck, then chek the gas cap if it is bad, and in my case the filler neck was very rusted but also my gas cap was bad, specefecly the locking mecanisme so I cleaned the rust and replaced the gas cap for a good one from the junk yard that I test it as showen in this video
The tools I used:
-Sand paper (100 grit: Medium)
-WD40
-Flat head screwdriver
