How To Give and To Receive Compliments: Accepting and Responding with Grace |
A lot of my etiquette students have struggled with this topic (just as much with small talk as with this). Hence, I created this video to help you navigate through paying and receiving compliment with grace.
It is not an easy task to give a compliment; it definitely takes courage, attention to detail and ability to verbalize your thoughts in the most polite way. It is equally challenging to accept it with grace without trying to deflect it or diminish its value.
Just like small talk, paying and receiving compliments politely requires practice. The more you practice, the better off you will be. You can always start with your family and close friends; it is a pleasant practice for everyone.
