UPDATE 1: it's is allowed to have the PV frame grounded to the DC ground busbar. This is because DC and AC ground are (most of the time) bonded with each other through the inverter.
UPDATE 2: when using a non-isolated DC to DC charger, you should remove the bond between ground an the neutral busbar. This is because the non-isolated DC to DC charger already bonds ground to neutral. If in doubt, use an isolated DC to DC charger.

In this video, we're diving into a crucial yet often confusing topic—how to properly ground an off-grid solar system. Whether you're setting up a stationary system for a cabin or home, or a mobile system like in a camper or RV, I'll walk you through the steps to ensure everything is safely and correctly grounded.

Stationary Off-Grid Systems (Cabins, Homes)

First, we'll tackle grounding a stationary off-grid system. I'll explain the importance of keeping your DC and AC grounds separate to avoid interference, and how to safely ground your solar panels, charge controller, and inverter. I'll also show you how to size your grounding wire to handle fault currents effectively, and why it's crucial to avoid ground loops, especially in areas prone to lightning.

Mobile Off-Grid Systems (Campers, RVs)

For mobile setups, like campers or RVs, grounding works differently. I’ll walk you through how to bond your solar panels and components to the chassis of your vehicle, and the precautions you need to take to avoid ground loops. I’ll also touch on the complexities of bonding neutral and ground in mobile AC systems and why it’s important to know your inverter type.
