The most common persimmon that bears fruit is the Japanese persimmon. Ripe fruit is sweet, less sour, soft flesh, sometimes fibrous. This persimmon, originally from China, is a deciduous tree, which often sheds its leaves when it bears fruit. The later persimmon was grown throughout East Asia, and in the 19th century was introduced to California and Europe.
