This video is an overview of different stick striking options, used in the Filippino Martial Arts, such as Arnis, Escrima, Kali and gives the watcher a general understanding of what are his options, when he grabs a stick.
Different stick strikes can be classified in various ways. The way I do it is following:
1) Trajectory
- vertical
- horizontal
- diagonal
2) Whether the stick changes the side or not
- the stick changes the side - labtik or florete strikes
- the stick returns straight back to the starting point - witik or staccato
- the stick strikes and returns back circularly - redondo, malayo, rapillon
3) The part of the stick that hits:
- front part of the long end of the stick - various strikes with this part
- front tip - forward (tetsada) and circular (sungkiti) thrusts
- sides of the long end - abanico
- back of the long end - pintock
- middle of the stick when grabbing the stick with two hands by the ends
- short end of the stick - punyo
