Explore the glorious Agaricus mushroom genus! Agaricus contains over 400 mushroom species, including portobello and white button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus). Wild edible Agaricus are relatively easy to recognize, with gills that change from a pleasant pink to a rich chocolate brown. I show off other key features of Agaricus mushrooms using a light brown specimen with reddish staining and a spectacular splatter of shiny red droplets called guttation! I also discuss: 1. Red and yellow staining Agaricus mushrooms in Sub-genus Agaricus and Flavoagaricus 2. Agaricus aromas, from sweet almond to revolting rot. 3. How to use ID tools like iNaturalist, mushroom field guides, and dichotomous keys.
