If you'd like to join new yarn into a project without needing to weave in ends, why "knot" try the magic knot! I particularly like using this technique when working scrap yarn crochet projects. Keep watching until the end of the tutorial to see how I wind my magic knot yarn into a gobstopper ball too!
Take care with when and where you use magic knots. Though I haven't experienced it myself, there is some risk that magic knots can loosen and come undone over time. They should only be used in projects where this doesn't present a concern, and the project can be repaired easily.
