I'm setting 1'x2' large format tile over kerdi membrane for a tub surround. This particular job has an offset window to deal with. In this video I show my process for getting measurements and how to set up my layout for a successful tile job.
In order to avoid a 1" sliver of tile along the window, I need to offset the tile one inch to the left. To avoid a tiny sliver of tile above the window, I need to start my first row of tile 1/2" shorter than a full width of tile.
The window is about 2" wide which works out beautifully for layout and there are no "L" cuts to contend with.
