My number 1 advice is to just get started. Set yourself an achievable goal eg: 1 hour a day of studies in total and stick to that no matter what. Soon enough you'll be enjoying the journey and just consuming Japanese content for fun!

Summary:

1. Decide your reason for learning Japanese, this will help you stay consistent when it gets hard

2. Learn Hiragana and Katakana - this is non negotiable. Use the read cover write method. You can learn how to read this in 2 days.

3. Do at least 10 Anki flashcards everyday. This will help you learn kanji as the hiragana will be on top, allowing you to read it.

4. Do a couple lessons on an audio course everyday for the first month or so. (JapanesePod101.com or Innovative Language Learning App)

5. Spend the majority of your time immersing yourself in Japanese by watching loads of Japanese content with Japanese subtitles. Do this from DAY 1 even if you don’t understand anything. Remember this is the most important step. Use an extension like FluentU to make this process easier.

6. For speaking, talk to yourself whenever you have time, practice shadowing to improve your pronunciation and use the resources I mentioned in the video to speak in a more interactive environment. (Beginners should focus on shadowing and talking to themselves, intermediates should focus on that as well as talking to natives)

7. STAY CONSISTENT!!!
