Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Philipp Gröninger from Caan in the Westerwald loves silver. Not only in jewelry form, but especially as a pitcher, coffee pot, as cutlery or plates. Everyday objects for eternity.

His starting material is an inconspicuous piece of sheet silver. From this, the blacksmith makes a teapot in delicate, small-scale and, above all, manual work. Only once does the 38-year-old use the lever shears. Otherwise, he cuts everything out by hand, polishes, files, and grinds " tediously and meditatively," as he calls it, partly because there are still no or only a few machines for the field. A large part of the tools, the hammers for example, are homemade.

The Westerwald native has already been awarded the "Prize of Craftsmanship" three times for his work. Clear design, combined with functionality, is his signature. In the end, says the blacksmith, they are utilitarian objects, they must function as such. Even the teapot made of silver!
