This is the way I was taught how to make custom cross grain inlay bandings. I used a piece of wedge for the core of the banding, followed by holly and ebony veneer. This is a great way to add a decorative inlay to any project that you may be building. I started with a wedge turning blank 3x10x10 inches and cut it cross grain. Then I cut those piece in half and glue then end to end. To do this successfully you'll need to clamp them down to a flat board then apply clamping pressure. After that I flattened and removed any glue. I then glues 4 piece of white and black veneer to the end grain glue up. When all said and done the end grain glue up won't be an issue cause the landings will be less than an inch thick. You can add whatever type of wood color you want to come up with al types of designs. Hope you enjoyed and possible learned a new technique!
