筍農家での竹林管理は、竹同士の間隔が和傘をさして歩けるくらいが適当と言われますので竹は間引かれて稈の部分は漁業用や農業用、もっと昔なら建築用などにも活用されました。枝打ちして出来た竹穂は、竹箒として使用していくのです。つまり、筍農家さんでも竹を全く無駄にするなく竹を使い切っていたのです。今回は、そんな竹林管理が今も続く中で竹箒作りをする職人の仕事です。
Bamboo shoot farmers manage their bamboo forests so that the bamboo is spaced apart enough so that you can walk through it with a Japanese umbrella, so the bamboo is thinned out and the culms are used for fishing and agriculture, and even more recently for construction. The bamboo stalks that are created by pruning are used to make bamboo brooms. In other words, bamboo shoot farmers use all of the bamboo without wasting any. This time, we look at the work of craftsmen who make bamboo brooms, a practice that continues to this day.
