七島藺（しちとうい）と聞くとご存じない方も多いですが、元々は琉球畳とはこの七島藺を畳床に縫い付けたものを言っていました。い草に比べて曲疲労強度、摩耗強度が5～6倍もあり、2倍以上の耐焦性があることから東京オリンピックまでは柔道畳として各地で使われていました。また、囲炉裏のある東北や北陸の農家でも広く愛用されてきた素材です。夏は涼しく冬は暖かいという特徴がありフローリングでのご使用に最適の七島藺縄編み円座が出来上がります。

Originally, Ryukyu tatami referred to tatami mats made with Shichitoi sewn onto a tatami floor.
Compared to rush grass, it has 5 to 6 times the bending fatigue strength and abrasion resistance, and is more than twice as scorch resistant, so it was used in various places as judo tatami until the Tokyo Olympics.
It is also a material that has been widely used by farmhouses in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions, where there are hearths.
It is cool in summer and warm in winter, making it ideal for use on flooring, and Shichitoi rope-woven round seating is made.
