➡️ How to Oxidize Your Blade at Home - EASY
In this video I present a quick, safe and extremely affordable (cheap) way to create a protective oxidation layer for your carbon steel knives.
Black oxidation is the process that basically consists of forcing an oxidation layer on the surface layer of carbon steel in order to provide protection against rust, in a way that significantly increases corrosion resistance.
This oxidation is also popularly called “patina”. In fact, any type of oxidation of metals by natural processes due to exposure to natural agents can be called this way.
For example: When you cut acidic foods (orange, onion, pineapple, meat, etc.) it is normal for a chemical reaction to occur between iron (Fe) and the acidic substances present in these foods, causing dark spots, and this is extremely normal, especially on carbon steel blades. This is called patina.
Oxidation occurs through the chemical reaction of the contact of iron (Fe) present in the sheet with oxygen from the atmosphere, and also in humid environments. Saline substances have an extremely fast oxidizing and corroding power in this process.
Therefore, it is recommended to wash and dry immediately after use, preserving the integrity of your knives for much longer, even if your knife has a dark oxidation layer for protection.
