A tutorial for painting realistic cat eyes in acrylics but the tips and techniques can also be applied for oils. There are key elements to painting cat eyes from the 3D shape of correct shading to building of the layers to create more depth. Minimal layering or incorrect layering order will end up with a flatter more 2D eye. With the use of glazes we can transform a cat eye into something very lifelike.
