How-to Print Paint Fabric Backgrounds

Surprising and fun results. Ann shows how she used a brown paper bag and textile paints to make designs on fabric that may be used as backgrounds and for other fabric, fiber art, and mixed media collage projects. Watch to the end for Ann's examples of works in progress projects on the printed painted backgrounds – they include markers, free motion quilting, over painting, hand embroidery, stencils, and paper collage on canvas.

Supplies and materials -

100% white cotton fabric (or try any white fabric)

Brown paper bags

Inexpensive paint brush, foam brushes, small to medium mop type artist brushes

Jacquard Textile Colors – russet, burnt umber, yellow, orange, emerald green, yellow ocher, citrine (metallic).Jacquard Metallic acrylic paint
Brayer (may use wax or parchment paper)
Craft sticks (optional)

Lid or palette for paint

Water and a container that will hold enough water for the paper bag to be submerged.

Work on a water and paint safe surface.
